A coffee run that paid off

It started with a billboard and a cup of coffee. A Leander, Texas player who says they are not a regular lottery customer noticed that a big Powerball jackpot had been building, and on the next morning's stop at a QuikTrip they added a Quick Pick to the order. That ticket matched all six numbers in the May 2, 2026 drawing - 25, 37, 42, 52, 65 and Powerball 14 - to land a share of the $20 million grand prize. A second jackpot-winning ticket sold in Florida split the top prize, so the Texan took half.

‘I think we’ve won the lottery’

The win nearly slipped by. The player told the Texas Lottery they spotted the ticket in their wallet days later while running errands and checked it mainly so they could throw it out. “Only, this time when I checked it, I saw that I’d won. I was stunned,” they said. When their spouse returned to the car and asked if they were okay, the answer was, “I think we’ve won the lottery.” The couple verified the numbers several times, locked the ticket in a safe, and - for now - say they have no grand plans, choosing to save the money while they decide what to do. The winner, who stayed anonymous, had taken the cash value option at purchase and collected $4,488,330.34 before taxes.

Only the fourth Powerball jackpot ever won in Texas

The Texas Lottery said it was just the fourth Powerball grand prize claimed by a Texas player in the game’s history, and the first since September 2025, when a trust in Fredericksburg claimed a share of a $1.8 billion jackpot. The QuikTrip that sold the ticket - store #4165 on East Crystal Falls Parkway in Leander - may qualify for a $250,000 retailer bonus.
